Hon. Rasheed Kashamu, a member representing Ijebu North State Constituency and former Minority Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has formally left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He cited irreconcilable differences, factional disputes, and leadership tussles at both the national and state levels as reasons for his defection.
Speaking during plenary at the Assembly, Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide read Kashamu’s resignation letter, in which the lawmaker explained that the divisions within the PDP had made it difficult to continue in the party.
Kashamu affirmed that his move aligns with the goals of other progressives in the state to support Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Iseya Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Kashamu, “After a review of the current state of affairs with the PDP at the national level, with factions and unresolved leadership crises, and as someone who rode on the pro-people legacy and support of my constituents in Ijebu North 1 State Constituency.”
“I have agreed with my leaders and teeming supporters that we should move en masse into the APC in order to bring our winning formula in Ijebu North 1 into APC and fully support Mr. Governor’s Iseya Agenda as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. I have since joined the APC at my ward in Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State,” he said
The lawmaker was welcomed into the APC fold at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, alongside his wife, uncle, and supporters from across Ijebu North. His co-lawmakers, led by the Speaker, formally received him into the party.
In a related development, the Ogun State House of Assembly has acknowledged a letter from Governor Abiodun requesting the confirmation of Mr. Abdul Najeem Olayinka as the new Auditor-General for Local Governments, following the retirement of Mr. Lamidi Mulero.
The Speaker directed that the nominee appear before the House on Wednesday, 17th December, 2025 by 12 noon and submit 30 copies each of his Curriculum Vitae and credentials by Tuesday, 16th December, at 10 a.m.
