The Ogun State House of Assembly has raised concerns over the execution of various road projects across the state, urging the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to tighten its monitoring of contractors and ensure timely, quality delivery of infrastructure.
Members of the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, led by Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, made this known during the ongoing 2025 mid-year budget performance appraisal held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The lawmakers called for a stronger internal supervisory framework within the Ministry, noting that the performance of contractors on some road projects had fallen short of public expectations. They stressed that every project must reflect the value of public investment, both during construction and after completion.
To strengthen legislative oversight, the Committee requested a detailed list of all completed and ongoing road projects across the state. They also charged the Ministry to expedite action on critical roads, particularly the reconstruction of the Abeokuta–Abule Egba Road, which they described as vital to easing inter-state mobility and economic activity.
While commending improvements in project documentation as presented in the Ministry’s mid-year report, the lawmakers emphasized that effective monitoring would prevent lapses, wastage, and substandard outcomes.
Members of the Committee, including Honourables Musefiu Lamidi, Babatunde Tella, Lukman Adeleye, Dickson Awolaja and Adebisi Oyedele, took turns to highlight road projects in their respective constituencies, appealing to the Ministry for quicker delivery. Hon. Wahab Haruna also requested that the scope of ongoing road infrastructure be extended to cover his constituency.
Responding on behalf of the Ministry, the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Yusuf Lateef Oladimeji, who represented the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, stated that several road projects had been completed and were already impacting economic activities in various communities.
He listed some of the completed projects as the Oke Erinja–Ilobi Road in Yewa South, Awokoya Road, and Igbeba–Talbort–Yidi Lane in Ijebu Ode. According to him, the Toyin–Giwa Hercules Road in Ifo, Alagbole–Ajuwon Road, and Akute–Ajuwon Road were among those completed and awaiting commissioning.
Oladimeji added that the Ministry had carried out palliative works on several roads to enhance accessibility, improve safety, and reduce vehicle maintenance costs. He also noted that some ongoing projects would resume full speed after the rainy season subsides.
The session also saw the appearance of the Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA) and the Bureau of Electrical Engineering Services (BEES), whose budget performances were also scrutinized by lawmakers.
