The Ogun Muslim Community Society on Thursday held a spiritually uplifting Ramadan lecture and prayer session in honour of Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, the lawmaker representing Ogun West under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The event, which took place at the Green Gold Event Hall in Akute, Ogun State, brought together Muslim faithful to reflect on the essence of Ramadan, engage in prayers, and promote the values of charity and community support.

Delivering the Ramadan lecture, the Grand Chief Imam of Akute, Alhaji Mohammed Baruwa, stressed the importance of piety, love, and generosity among Muslims.

He reminded attendees that Ramadan is not only a period of fasting but also a time to deepen their commitment to helping others, especially amid economic difficulties.

“There is nothing greater in this world than having the fear of Allah. Allah calls on all Muslim faithful to love one another and uphold righteousness, both during and after Ramadan,” Imam Baruwa stated.

The cleric further urged Nigerians to extend charity to their families and neighbors, emphasizing that the government alone cannot cater to everyone’s daily needs.

“We all know the country is facing economic hardship, but the government cannot drop food at the doorstep of every Nigerian. That is why we must be our brothers’ keepers. Let us assist one another in any way we can during this trying period,” he added.

Alhaji Baruwa also called on wealthy individuals and philanthropists to embrace the act of Zakat (charity), as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad.

He particularly commended Senator Yayi for his humanitarian efforts, urging others to emulate his good deeds.

“Senator Yayi has shown a heart of kindness towards those in need. This is the type of leadership and compassion we need in our society,” he remarked.

In his address, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, emphasized the importance of community engagement and faith in Allah.

Represented by Hon. Kayode Amusa, Yayi reaffirmed his commitment to empowering his constituents and improving their welfare.

“Giving back to society and touching lives through empowerment programs underscores the essence of human existence,” he said.

Senator Yayi also urged Muslims to continue praying for the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

“Casting aspersions on the country will not bring the dividends of democracy we all desire. Instead, we must remain prayerful and supportive of the leadership for national progress,” he added.

The event featured a special recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers for Nigeria’s leadership, including President Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Senator Yayi. Ramadan relief packages were also distributed to attendees, reinforcing the spirit of charity that defines the sacred month.
