A Police Inspector, identified as Ajele Oloyede, has reportedly taken his own life while on duty at a ceramic company in the Igbesa area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on Thursday.
The tragic event was first discovered by another police officer, Tolorunloju Stephen, attached to the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos.
According to Odutola, Stephen had returned from Ikeja around 1:20 p.m. and found Oloyede resting his head on a table at the security facility provided for officers.
Concerned about his colleague’s well-being, Stephen asked if he was alright, to which Oloyede reportedly replied, “Yes.”
“Stephen placed his bag and pistol on the table and stepped into the restroom,” Odutola said. Moments later, Oloyede allegedly took his own life.
Upon hearing the gunshot, security personnel at the company rushed to the scene and immediately transported the wounded officer to Ota General Hospital. However, the attending doctor pronounced him dead.
Odutola added, “Police officers visited the scene, and the deceased’s pistol was recovered. His body has been deposited at Ota General Hospital for autopsy, and we have begun notifying his family.”
