In a fresh move to bolster security across the state, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the recruitment of 550 new officers into the Ogun State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps.
This latest development brings the total number of officers employed into the outfit to 1,240 within a span of six months, following the earlier enlistment of 690 operatives.
Speaking at the passing out parade ceremony for Batch E held at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Sagamu, Governor Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the recruitment as a critical step in his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of residents.
“This ceremony marks a defining moment in our collective pursuit of a safer Ogun State,” he said. “Our Building Our Future Together Agenda places the safety of citizens at the centre of our economic and social development plans.”
The Governor noted that the Amotekun Corps was created to complement existing federal security structures by leveraging community trust and local intelligence. According to him, the model has consistently proven its effectiveness and remains a key pillar in the state’s security strategy.
“Ogun remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria today. This is not by accident. It is the result of strategic planning, continuous investment and strong collaboration among stakeholders,” he added.
Abiodun congratulated the new officers, urging them to consider their role as a service to the state and not just a job. He assured that they will be deployed strategically across the state to tackle security challenges at the grassroots.
Earlier in his remarks, the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (Rtd), described the passing out parade as a milestone, revealing that the 550 graduates are part of a larger batch of 1,500 operatives approved by the Governor for recruitment.
He commended the state government for its unwavering support through recruitment drives, operational tools, and the provision of resources that have helped the corps fight crime, especially in notorious areas like Area J4.
“Our operation in Area J4 has drastically reduced illegal activities, which in turn has boosted the socio-economic growth of the state,” he noted.
General Adedigba charged the newly recruited corps members to carry out their duties with diligence and cooperate with other security agencies to sustain peace across Ogun State.
