Residents of communities along the Itaoshin–Ibara-Orile–Joga–Imasai–Ilaro federal road have expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in the construction of the 51.01-kilometre project, lamenting the hardship it has brought to their daily lives.

At a stakeholders meeting convened by the member representing Abeokuta North State Constituency, Hon. Babatunde Tella, participants noted that the poor state of the road has continued to disrupt human and vehicular movement, making life unbearable for the people.

The meeting, which was the third in a series of engagements, brought together representatives of the host communities, the Federal Ministry of Works led by Engr. Babatunde Olasunkanmi, the contractor handling the project, Strabic Construction represented by Engr. Tope Ojo, and the Commissioner, National Complaints Commission, Mr. Morakinyo Akinleye, among others.

Hon. Tella explained that the purpose of the engagement was to agree on the project’s timeline and coverage, while also setting up a platform for continuous interaction between the contractor and the communities.

He added that further visits would be made to the project site to assess the pace and quality of work being carried out.

In their resolution, stakeholders including Mr. Akinleye and Hon. Yusuf Amosun charged the contractor to speed up work and implement the project in phases to ease the sufferings of residents.

They maintained that the long delay had already caused untold discomfort for road users who rely on the federal road.
