The Ogun State Water Corporation has announced a compulsory migration of all flat-rate and post-paid customers to prepaid meters as part of efforts to improve service efficiency, ensure accurate billing, and enhance revenue collection.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, who disclosed this in a statement, said the initiative is aimed at addressing non-revenue water losses resulting from unpaid bills and billing discrepancies.

She explained that the introduction of prepaid meters will guarantee that customers are charged only for the water they consume, ensuring fairness, accountability, and efficiency in distribution.

“The deployment of prepaid water meters is a necessary step to eliminate issues related to non-payment, billing disputes, and estimated charges. It will also help customers monitor and control their water usage,” she stated.

In addition to the metering transition, the corporation has also issued a firm deadline for the settlement of outstanding debts by customers on flat-rate and post-paid billing systems. The corporation revealed that in Abeokuta alone, unpaid bills from these categories amount to ₦632.9 million across various service areas.

The breakdown of debts includes Adatan 1-4 (₦86,816,145.41), Elega 1 & 2 (₦171,763,691.65), Ibara (₦97,988,978), Ijeun Titun (₦168,530,757.26), and Ita Oshin (₦106,805,066.55).
