The Paramount Ruler of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty King Monday Arthur Whiskey Udurhie I, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, led a high-powered delegation of the Idjerhe (Ijere) Kingdom in Delta State to the Ile Oodua Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Arole Oodua Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, in Ile-Ife.

The visit, described as historic, centred on strengthening collaboration among traditional rulers across Southern Nigeria with a shared commitment to cultural preservation, unity, and development.

Speaking during the visit, King Udurhie I emphasized that traditional institutions remain the backbone of societal values and governance. He said that for Nigeria to move forward, royal heritage must be preserved and passed on to future generations.

“Our unity as traditional rulers is vital, because we hold the ancestral ties that bind our people together. With synergy, we can influence greater progress in our regions and the nation at large,” he stated.

The Idjerhe monarch also stressed that the Niger Delta region, which has consistently contributed to Nigeria’s oil and gas production, deserves stronger federal presence through appointments and infrastructure.

He expressed optimism that the Ooni, with his influential position as the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Traditional Council of Nigeria, would help foster the much-needed synergy between traditional rulers and the Federal Government.

In his response, Ooni Ogunwusi described King Udurhie I as a visionary and charismatic royal father who has elevated the Idjerhe Kingdom’s image globally.

“I am super excited to host my brother King from Idjerhe Kingdom. Seeing him from afar, I could feel the connection. Today, you have made my day and won my heart,” the Ooni said.

He added that the visit was long anticipated and reaffirmed his commitment to closer ties among Southern traditional leaders.

“Because you have honoured me with this visit, I will personally deliver your message to Mr. President. Together, we will continue to strengthen the bond of unity among our people,” the Ooni assured.
