The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it is studying the results of Saturday’s governorship election across the 332 wards in the state to determine its next line of action.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party said it would consult its legal team before deciding whether to challenge the outcome of the election through the available legal channels.

The APC maintained that the electoral process does not necessarily end with the declaration of results, noting that parties are entitled to seek redress through the tribunal and appellate courts where necessary.

According to the party, “election is a process which begins at the registration of the voters through the primary election to the election proper which extends to the tribunal, the Appeal Court and terminates at the Supreme Court.”

The party said it would not hesitate to explore the provisions of the Electoral Act after receiving professional advice from its lawyers.

“We shall not hesitate without further delay to explore the window allowed by the extant Electoral Act after the due consultation with the team of our lawyers based on their professional advice,” the statement said.

The APC, however, urged its members and supporters to remain calm and avoid actions capable of causing tension across the state.

The party appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members and supporters who it alleged were being molested by members of the opposition.

“We are imploring the Nigeria Police Force to come to the aid and rescue of our members and supporters who are being needlessly molested by the opposition,” it said.

The APC also assured its supporters that it would not abandon them, describing the current political situation as “a passing phase which will soon become part of history.”

It commended its members and supporters for their commitment during the election and urged them to remain steadfast while the leadership determines the next course of action.
