The Governor of Osun State and Visitor to Osun State University, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has described the institution as a model for other universities in Nigeria while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transforming Osun into the nation’s top-performing state in education.
Speaking during the maiden Annual Public Lecture of the University held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila, CFR, for honouring the invitation to deliver the lecture.
“I am particularly excited to host and welcome my long-time brother and friend, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Gbajabiamila, to Osun State,” the Governor said.
While acknowledging the progress made by the University, Governor Adeleke stated, “I have been keenly following the governance and administration of this University almost on a daily basis. The University has become one of the enduring legacies that continue to make us proud as a State. It is now a model for other universities to emulate.”
He praised the University’s Governing Council led by Professor Wale Oladipo for its exemplary leadership, assuring the institution of unrelenting government support.
“This is why we are always quick to approve any proposal or request from the Council,” he said.
The Governor also commended the Senate of the University for consistently organizing the annual public lecture series, describing them as impactful.
“With the knowledge we have all gained from this lecture, I am convinced that it is never a waste of time and resources,” he noted.
Acknowledging the quality of the lecture and the choice of speaker, Adeleke added, “I am particularly happy to note the title of this lecture and the calibre of the resource person the University has invited. I am sure our guest speaker’s thoughts will further guide governments at all levels.”
He had high praise for the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, whom he described as a “blessing to the University and Osun State as a whole.” According to him, “UNIOSUN is experiencing steady progress and transformational leadership under his visionary guidance.”
Governor Adeleke further highlighted improvements in Osun’s educational performance, stating, “In national examinations, Osun is now ranked 7th position. We were 33rd in 2022. Our target is to be ranked number one in the future.”
He concluded by once again appreciating Gbajabiamila for honoring the University’s invitation.
“I thank you very much on behalf of the good people of Osun State and Osun State University, and I wish you safe return to the Presidency.”
The Governor also extended gratitude to all attendees and prayed for their safe journey back to their destinations.
