As preparations reach the final stage for the coronation of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Oyo State Government has bolstered security measures to ensure a hitch-free event on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Security operatives, including police and other law enforcement agencies, have been strategically deployed to key areas within the ancient city and its surrounding communities.

A police source, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the deployment of additional personnel to maintain law and order. “The police, in conjunction with other security agencies, are fully prepared to ensure a smooth and trouble-free event,” the source assured.

Police vans and security operatives have been stationed at critical locations, including Owoade, Jabata, Akesan, Isale Oyo, Eleekara, and the School of Survey, to forestall any security breaches.

Oba Owoade I recently completed the traditional 21-day Oro Ipebi rites on Saturday, March 29, paving the way for his grand installation. The coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place at Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo, where Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to preside over the event alongside prominent dignitaries.

Other key venues for the festivities include Ladigbolu Grammar School, Durbar Stadium, the Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Mini Stadium, and the Alaafin’s Palace.

Distinguished guests expected at the event include the former Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, ambassadors from four different countries, over 200 Oyo indigenes residing in Canada, as well as traditional rulers, diplomats, and high-ranking government officials.

Meanwhile, local hotels are experiencing a surge in bookings as visitors prepare to flood the city for the historic event. A hotel manager, who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed, “We have upgraded our facilities to ensure that our guests have a memorable stay. The security agencies have also assured us of adequate protection.”
