The President of the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, issued an urgent appeal on Sunday over the spread of a dangerous hard drug, popularly called Skunchies, being sold to unsuspecting youths and teenagers under the guise of a traditional zobo drink.
According to the foundation, Skunchies is prepared by soaking marijuana in water or alcohol for a specific period, after which other substances are reportedly added before mixing the extract with zobo to mimic the familiar color and taste of the popular local beverage.
“This dangerous concoction is being passed off as a harmless drink, and it poses serious health risks to our youths.”
“Parents and school authorities must be vigilant and ensure that children do not fall victim to this deadly practice,” the foundation said in a statement.
Alhaji Wahab appealed to parents, guardians, school proprietors, community leaders, and associations to remain alert. “Illicit drugs like Skunchies are not only deadly, they destroy lives and communities.”
“We call on everyone to educate youths on the dangers of hard drugs and to act decisively in preventing access to such substances,” he stressed.
Experts warn that the risks associated with hard drug use are enormous, ranging from physical and mental health deterioration to social and academic decline.
The foundation emphasized that community engagement and parental supervision are critical in curbing the spread of such hazardous substances.
