Police operatives have recovered items suspected to be human remains concealed in passengers’ luggage during a routine stop and search along the Lagos Ibadan expressway.
The recovery was made near the Guru Maharaj axis of the highway when operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a commercial vehicle travelling from Lagos to Osogbo.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Alayande, said the items were wrapped in a red cloth and discovered during a search of the vehicle.
According to him, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was immediately apprehended following the discovery.
Alayande said, “Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a commercial vehicle during a routine stop and search along the Lagos Ibadan expressway near Guru Maharaji Village.
“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be parts of a human corpse, concealed among the luggage.
“The driver, Kazeem Ayegbo, who was travelling from Lagos to Osogbo, was apprehended, and investigation has commenced to determine the origin and intended purpose of the recovered items.”
He added that investigative efforts had been extended beyond Oyo State in order to identify and apprehend other persons who might be connected with the incident.
The police spokesman stated that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
The command assured residents that the case was being handled with professionalism and diligence, stressing its resolve to ensure that all offenders are brought to justice.
It also urged members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information, noting that public support remains vital to maintaining peace and security across the state.
