Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a planned kidnapping operation and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in a ₦50 million ransom conspiracy targeting a Chinese national along the Ijebu Ode–Odogbolu axis.
The Command disclosed this in a press statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, at the Eleweran Headquarters, Abeokuta.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were arrested on June 9, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. following credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer of Obalende Division on an imminent abduction attempt.
According to the statement, operatives of the division were immediately mobilised alongside the surveillance team to the identified location where the suspects were intercepted and arrested before they could execute the plan.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to kidnap a Chinese national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million. It was further gathered that one of the suspects, who worked within the company environment as an interpreter and driver, reportedly used his position to aid the planned crime.
The police also confirmed that another accomplice linked to the plot is currently on the run, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend him as investigations continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the swift response of the operatives, describing their action as timely and professional in preventing what could have escalated into a major security incident.
He also emphasised the importance of intelligence sharing and community cooperation in crime prevention, urging residents and business owners to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
The Command reiterated its commitment to intelligence led policing and sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal networks threatening public peace and safety.
