The political scene in Ogun State is witnessing a major realignment as top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) take steps to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

On Monday, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, hosted key opposition figures at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in what many have described as a significant turning point in the state’s political landscape.

The delegation was led by Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, a former chairman of the PDP in Ogun State, and Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, a notable former member of the House of Representatives and ex-APM gubernatorial candidate.

They were accompanied by other influential figures, including Dr. Ekelojumati, Hon. Olowo Fuja, and several grassroots mobilizers from across the state.

Though the meeting was held behind closed doors, sources familiar with the discussions revealed that the talks centered on their planned defection to the APC and ways to contribute to the party’s mission of inclusive governance.

Speaking after the meeting, Governor Abiodun welcomed the move, describing it as a patriotic decision that prioritizes the unity and development of Ogun State. He emphasized that the APC remains committed to building a future of shared prosperity for all residents.

“This is beyond party lines. It is about consolidating the progress we have achieved, fostering peace, and ensuring Ogun continues on the path of sustainable development,” Abiodun stated.

On his part, Dr. Ogundele commended the Governor’s leadership style and openness, noting that the visit marks the beginning of their formal transition to the APC.

Hon. Akinlade, who contested the 2019 governorship election under the APM platform, stressed that the decision to align with the APC was driven by the need to promote stability, growth, and unity in the state.

The formal declaration of their defection is expected to take place in the coming weeks, a development political observers believe will bolster the strength of the APC in Ogun ahead of future elections.
