The Presidency has dismissed a circulating report claiming that Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The story, which spread across several online platforms on Saturday, alleged that Senator George Akume had been moved to replace Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, creating room for Bala Usman to step in as SGF.
In a firm response, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the report was false and urged Nigerians to ignore it.
He described those behind the claim as individuals intent on creating confusion.
“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” Onanuga said in a statement titled Akume remains SGF.
He also clarified that Tinubu, who is currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it. The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news,” he added.
