The House of Representatives has summoned the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), to appear before its ad-hoc committee for an interactive session on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
This follows the inauguration of a 21-member ad-hoc committee by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on Tuesday, mandated to oversee developments in Rivers State in the wake of the presidential proclamation of a State of Emergency in the state.
The spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi (Jnr), announced the invitation in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the summons was part of the committee’s inaugural activities.
“The committee met on Wednesday for the first time after its inauguration and resolved to invite the Sole Administrator in line with its oversight responsibilities,” Rotimi stated.
He added that the session will allow the committee to assess developments in Rivers State since Vice Admiral Ibas assumed office, as well as gather insights into the administration’s handling of affairs during the emergency period.
“Pursuant to its constitutional mandate to exercise full legislative oversight in accordance with Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Committee resolved, among other matters, to invite Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to appear before it for a comprehensive interactive session,” Rotimi said.
Chairman of the committee and House Leader, Hon. Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, OON, stressed the importance of the engagement. He said, “This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in the discharge of its oversight responsibilities in the public interest.”
According to the statement, the session will hold at 4:00 PM in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
“A formal letter of invitation has been sent and acknowledged accordingly. This public announcement serves to reinforce transparency in the Committee’s proceedings,” Rotimi noted.
He further reiterated the committee’s commitment to upholding the principles of diligence, transparency, and adherence to the Constitution in carrying out its duties.
