The National Assembly has given final approval to the ₦54.99 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill, paving the way for federal government spending in the new fiscal year.
The budget, originally presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was passed by both the Senate and House of Representatives after detailed scrutiny and deliberation.
At the House of Representatives, lawmakers examined the bill clause by clause before granting approval. Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Rep. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, who presented the bill, emphasized its importance in driving national development.
“This budget is a strategic framework aimed at stabilizing the economy while addressing key national priorities,” he said.
After the review, Speaker Abbas Tajuddeen put the budget to a voice vote, leading to its adoption. The approved document outlines allocations for critical sectors, including statutory transfers of ₦3.64 trillion, debt servicing at ₦14.32 trillion, recurrent (non-debt) expenditure at ₦13.06 trillion, and capital expenditure set at ₦23.96 trillion.
In the Senate, the bill sailed through after the Senate Committee on Appropriations, led by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Ogun West), presented its report.
Following this, Senate President Godswill Akpabio provided a breakdown of the budget, reinforcing its alignment with national economic objectives.
Backing the bill’s passage, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) described the budget as a crucial step toward sustained economic growth.
“The passage of this budget reflects our commitment to ensuring fiscal responsibility while prioritizing the needs of Nigerians,” he stated.
His motion for approval was seconded by Minority Leader Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), leading to its unanimous passage.
