The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Solomon Adeola Yayi, has expressed deep sympathy with world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, following a fatal road accident in Ogun State that claimed the lives of two members of his training team.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, and made available to journalists on Tuesday, the senator described the incident, which occurred at Makun during the Yuletide period, as a tragic development that has dampened the festive mood across the country.
Adeola said the accident was particularly painful because it involved a celebrated sports figure from Ogun State and occurred at a time meant for joy and reflection.
“It was indeed a sad event involving a boxing legend from Ogun State that occurred in Makun. The loss of precious lives on holidays is heartbreaking,” the senator said.
He added that the tragedy had cast a dark shadow over the Yuletide season, not only for the families of the deceased but also for Nigerians and boxing fans around the world.
According to him, the incident “has cast an ugly shadow on an otherwise joyous holiday season for all Nigerians and boxing fans worldwide.”
While commiserating with Joshua over the loss, Adeola wished the boxing champion and the driver involved in the crash a quick recovery from the injuries and emotional trauma suffered in the accident.
The senator also prayed for the deceased, asking God to grant them eternal rest and to give their families and friends the strength to cope with the irreparable loss.
