Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, has signed a two-year contract with Saudi Women’s League giants Al Hilal, marking another milestone in her illustrious career.
The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year made the switch from Bay FC in the United States, where she spent just over a season after her high-profile move from Spanish champions FC Barcelona Femeni.
Oshoala, 30, who underwent medicals on Monday night, will now begin a fresh chapter in the Middle East after limited playing time at Bay FC. Reports confirmed that the American side and Al Hilal agreed on an undisclosed transfer fee.
During her spell in the NWSL, Oshoala featured in 25 league games last season, scoring seven goals with one assist, but her role had diminished this season. Bay FC coach Albertin Montoya had earlier explained her struggle with adapting to the league’s style of play as part of the reason for her reduced minutes.
The Nigerian international has enjoyed success across top leagues in Europe, Asia, and America, and now looks set to bring her wealth of experience to the Saudi Women’s League.
Her move comes shortly after she helped Nigeria secure a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
With her reputation as Africa’s most decorated female footballer, Oshoala’s arrival is expected to boost Al Hilal’s dominance and further expand the global spotlight on women’s football in Saudi Arabia.
