An operative of the Osun Amotekun Corps, identified as Samuel Tope, has died after he was allegedly attacked by a soldier in the Ijeda-Ijesa community of Osun State.
The Corps Commander, Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, in a statement on Sunday, claimed that the attack was carried out by a soldier identified as Opejobi Fiyinfoluwa, who was reportedly dressed in military camouflage and accompanied by unidentified accomplices. The incident reportedly occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the statement, the soldier had earlier approached the Amotekun station in Ijebu-Jesa and openly declared his intent to “deal decisively” with Amotekun personnel. Not long after, he and his accomplices allegedly ambushed Tope while he was riding a motorcycle and launched a violent assault on him.
“The assailants reportedly struck Tope on the head with a blunt object, causing him to fall from the bike,” Omoyele said, adding that the assault lasted about 20 minutes without intervention.
Tope was later rushed to Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesa, but he died in the early hours of Sunday while receiving treatment.
The matter was also reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu-Jesa and the Engineering Cantonment in Ede.
