Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described teaching as a collective mission that shapes the future of generations and drives national development, emphasizing that education remains the cornerstone of every society’s progress.

Speaking at the 2025 World Teachers’ Day Celebration held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, with the theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborating Profession”, Governor Abiodun said the theme calls for a reimagination of the teaching space as one built on teamwork, mentorship, shared learning, and mutual support.

Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor explained that teaching is not an isolated endeavour but a collective mission that draws strength from the cooperation among teachers, parents, communities, and government.

“Education extends beyond the classroom. It shapes the values, vision, and vitality of entire generations. That is why our administration continues to invest significantly in the education sector under the Building Our Future Together Agenda,” he stated.

Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s pride in the measurable contributions of teachers to the collective progress of Ogun State, stressing that government will continue to invest in teachers’ welfare, digital competence, professional training, and infrastructure in line with global best practices.

“The prosperity of Ogun State rests on your shoulders. We will continue to support our teachers with the tools, amenities, and conducive environment needed to thrive because only then can we secure the future of our children and build a more enlightened and prosperous state,” the Governor added.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, appreciated teachers’ efforts and assured that the present administration would continue to prioritise their welfare.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, and his counterpart in the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, congratulated all teachers, describing them as the backbone of the education system and silent architects of progress.

They urged teachers to continue working as a team, share strategies, connect globally through training and technology, and partner with parents and government to deliver quality education.

“Teachers remain the torchbearers of civilisation and the shapers of future generations. The government will continue to prioritise your welfare and provide the needed support for improved service delivery,” they assured.

On their part, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Sewakanu Oladipupo, and his counterpart in the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Felix Agbesanwa, described teachers as nation builders and appreciated the state government for fostering a mutually beneficial relationship with educators.

They commended the government’s strides in the education sector, including digital classrooms, timely payment of salaries, and regular training.

They also called for additional incentives such as support for families of deceased teachers, establishment of an Education Trust Fund for out-of-school children, and introduction of e-lesson notes to align with evolving trends in the sector.
