Tragedy struck at a factory along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State as a 19-year-old machine operator, Ishaku Monday, was electrocuted while on duty.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the teenager was working at Xinfeng Plastics Limited when the fatal accident occurred.
According to Odutola, the incident happened around 7:30 pm on Sunday while Monday was operating a palletising machine inside the factory. He was immediately rushed to Idera Medical Centre in Sagamu, where a doctor later confirmed him dead.
“The Nigerian manager of the company, Francis Felix, reported the incident to the Sagamu Division of the Ogun State Police Command on Monday around 7 am,” Odutola stated.
She further disclosed that detectives visited the scene, took photographs, and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.
However, the victim’s family opted out of any further probe and requested the release of his body for burial.
Monday’s remains have been deposited at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital mortuary.
