Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested three suspects linked to the death of a commercial sex worker at a brothel in Akure, the state capital.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, 2025, reportedly followed a heated argument between the deceased and a male customer who demanded uninterrupted sexual service.

According to an eyewitness, the sex worker became weak during the act and could not continue, prompting the customer to request a refund of N15,000. The woman, however, refused, leading to a confrontation.

Efforts by the brothel manager to mediate failed, as the customer insisted on either getting his money back or completing the act. The situation escalated when the customer left the premises and returned with suspected associates.

They reportedly attempted to retrieve the money by force, resulting in a scuffle that worsened the woman’s condition. Police patrol officers arrived at the scene following a distress call and arrested three suspects.

The woman, who was barely conscious, was rushed to a hospital in the Lafe area but was later confirmed dead at the Police Hospital, Akure. Her body has been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

He added that detectives are working to apprehend two other individuals who fled the scene.

“The command urges residents to remain calm and share useful information that may aid the investigation. We assure the public that justice will be served,” Ayanlade stated.
