President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Governing Council and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, located in Ogoniland, Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the appointments.
According to the release, Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a professor of Management with a background in Organisational Behaviour, will serve as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. He hails from the South-South and formerly taught at the University of Port Harcourt.
Also appointed is Prof. Chinedu Mmom, from the South-South, as the Vice-Chancellor. Mmom is a professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Port Harcourt and a former commissioner for education in Rivers State.
The newly constituted Governing Council comprises representatives from various geopolitical zones. Members include Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South West), Prof. Chima Oji (South East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West).
President Tinubu also named principal officers who will handle key administrative roles. Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (South-South) will serve as the Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North Central) has been appointed as the Bursar, while Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (South-South) will function as the Librarian.
The university, which is expected to admit its first set of students in September 2025, was established following the signing of the bill into law by President Tinubu on February 3, 2025.
