President Bola Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on members of the Super Falcons following their heroic performance and victory at the just-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In addition to the national honour, Tinubu announced a cash reward of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each of the 24 players, and $50,000 to each member of the technical crew.
The president made the announcement during a special reception held at the State House in Abuja to celebrate the team’s resilience and record-breaking achievement at the tournament.
According to Tinubu, the Super Falcons not only brought glory to Nigeria but also proved to the world that Nigerian women are second to none in strength, courage and excellence.
“You have shown that with determination and unity, we can overcome any challenge. You didn’t just win matches, you won hearts,” Tinubu told the team.
The Falcons stunned the continent after defeating host nation Morocco 3–2 in a dramatic final, securing Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title and cementing their dominance in African women’s football.
Details of the presentation and further reactions are expected in the coming hours.
