President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, urging him to use his renewed mandate to unite the people of the state and pursue growth and development.
A statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said Tinubu described Adeleke’s victory as an affirmation of the confidence the people of Osun State have in his leadership.
Tinubu said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his electoral victory, adding that the outcome of the poll reflected the will of the people.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” the President said.
He urged the governor-elect to reach out to all sections of the state and work for the progress of Osun, irrespective of how they voted during the election.
“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” Tinubu said.
The President also commended other contestants for what he described as their courage and discipline, saying their participation contributed to the development of Nigeria’s democratic culture.
“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture,” he said.
Tinubu further described the outcome of the election as a positive indication of the resilience of democracy in Nigeria.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” he stated.
The President also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
INEC declared Adeleke winner of the August 15 governorship election after he polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The returning officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, formally declared Adeleke the winner after the results from the 30 local government areas were collated.
