Afrobeats stars Tiwa Savage and Teni may be heading for a celebrity boxing showdown after the latter challenged her fellow singer to a fight with a proposed purse of ₦1.5 billion.
Teni, whose real name is Teniola Atinuke Apata, issued the challenge in a viral video posted on Friday, October 2, where she jokingly called on Savage to meet her in the ring.
“Let’s fight, Tiwa Savage and me. Mummy, I will beat you till you enter bush,” Teni said, adding that she would sing “My Darling” for Savage after defeating her.
The singer also questioned the huge sums spent on luxury cars by Nigerian entertainers, suggesting that a ₦1.5 billion fight purse could enable her to afford a Bugatti.
Responding to the challenge in the comment section, Savage simply wrote, “Pick a date,” a response that quickly generated reactions from fans who interpreted it as an acceptance of the proposed bout.
The exchange comes amid growing interest in celebrity boxing in Nigeria, with several entertainers recently taking their public disagreements into the ring.
However, there is currently no indication that a promoter, venue, contract or official date has been fixed for a Savage-Teni bout.
The proposed fight follows the recent Chaos in the Ring celebrity boxing series, where Big Brother Naija winner Phyna defeated actress Nkechi Blessing in Lagos on October 1.
The event, organised by Balmoral Group Promotions, has also featured entertainers including Portable, Charles Okocha, Speed Darlington and Carter Efe.
Carter Efe recently defeated Portable by unanimous decision, while Portable had earlier recorded victories over Okocha and Speed Darlington.
