Veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after battling cancer.
Hassan’s death was announced on Sunday by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during a live session on her Instagram page, according to Peoples Gazette.
The actor’s death came only days after his daughter disclosed that he was battling stage four cancer, prompting concerns among his fans, colleagues and well wishers.
Before his death, efforts were reportedly made to secure quality medical treatment for the veteran actor. Ogun State’s All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Senator Adeola Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, was also reported to have offered financial support towards his treatment.
Hassan was one of the prominent figures in the Yoruba film industry, where he built a long standing career as an actor and filmmaker. He was widely recognised by his stage name, Ogogo, and remained a familiar face in Nollywood.
His death is expected to trigger tributes from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
The announcement also comes amid concerns raised by his family over individuals allegedly exploiting the actor’s illness for financial gain.
His daughter had earlier accused some Nigerians of using her father’s health condition to make money, urging the public to be cautious about information and fundraising activities surrounding his treatment.
Further details on the funeral arrangements was not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
