The Ogun State Police Command has revealed the motive behind the murder of former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Mrs Olakitan Oyesiku, with the prime suspect allegedly confessing that the attack was carried out to “teach her a lesson.”

The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Thursday following the arrest of three suspects linked to the killing of Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

According to Ojajuni, the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, confessed during interrogation and admitted recruiting two others, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, to participate in the crime.

The police commissioner said the suspect told investigators that he planned the attack because of grievances stemming from the period he worked as a security guard for the deceased.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson,’” Ojajuni said.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects carried out the attack on June 20 after first overpowering the deceased’s security guard.

“According to the statement, they first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” the commissioner stated.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene with Oyesiku’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle after the attack. However, the vehicle was later recovered through intelligence-led tracking operations.

Ojajuni said detectives were able to make significant progress in the investigation after recovering a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the perpetrators at the crime scene.

The note was subjected to forensic examination, providing valuable leads that eventually led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.

Police also recovered several exhibits linked to the crime, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen.

The commissioner assured residents that investigations were ongoing and that all suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
