The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has congratulated Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji on his re-election as Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter.
In a congratulatory message issued on Sunday by the senator’s media office, Adeola described Ogunsiji’s return for a second term as a reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in his leadership by members of the association.
The lawmaker said the outcome of the election was a recognition of the achievements recorded during Ogunsiji’s first tenure and an endorsement of his commitment to advancing sports journalism in Ogun State.
“Your re-election is a clear testament to the confidence and trust that members of the association have in your leadership, commitment and capacity to advance the ideals of sports journalism in Ogun State,” Adeola said.
He added, “The decision of SWAN members to entrust you with a second term is not merely an endorsement of your person. It is a resounding vote of confidence in the modest but impactful successes you recorded during your first tenure.”
Adeola commended the Ogun SWAN chairman for promoting professionalism, supporting sports development and strengthening collaboration between sports stakeholders and the media.
He urged the re-elected chairman and the newly inaugurated executive committee to consolidate on the achievements of the past administration and continue to pursue programmes that would use sports as a tool for youth empowerment, economic growth and social development.
“As you begin another term, I urge you and the newly inaugurated executive committee to build on the gains already made, remain united in purpose, and continue to champion initiatives that will further develop sports as a catalyst for youth empowerment, economic growth and social cohesion in Ogun State,” he said.
The senator also praised members of the association for conducting what he described as a peaceful and rancour-free election, saying the exercise reflected the democratic culture and maturity of the body.
Looking ahead to the 2027 governorship election, Adeola pledged stronger collaboration with sports stakeholders if elected governor of Ogun State.
“By the grace of God, when we assume executive responsibility in Ogun State in 2027, my administration will work closely with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, and other critical stakeholders to galvanise the sports sector, unlock its immense economic potential, develop world-class sporting infrastructure, and create opportunities for our talented youths to excel,” he stated.
He wished Ogunsiji and the newly elected executive a successful tenure and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sports development and youth empowerment across Ogun State.
