A 43-year-old man, Lateef Suleiman, has been arrested for allegedly beating his elder brother to death in Sepeteri area of Oyo State.
The tragic incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Alayande Olayinka, in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly attacked his 52-year-old elder brother, Mustapha Amidu, following an accusation that the deceased shot him in a dream while he was asleep the previous night.
The statement disclosed that Suleiman reportedly approached the victim while he was seated, picked up a heavy rock and struck him on the head before fleeing the scene.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a tragic incident reported at the Ago-Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters, Sepeteri,” the statement read.
“One Badmus Yunisa ‘m’ of Alegunlode Compound, Sepeteri, reported that Lateef Suleiman ‘m’, aged 43 years, attacked his elder brother, Mustapha Amidu ‘m’, aged 52 years, following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream while he was asleep the previous night. Acting on this claim, the suspect allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock, struck him on the head, and fled the scene immediately.”
Police said the victim was rushed to Ileri Oluwa Hospital, Sepeteri, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
The statement added that upon receiving the report, a team of operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Amodu Division visited both the scene and the hospital as part of preliminary investigations.
The suspect has since been arrested and reportedly confessed to the crime. He is currently cooperating with investigators.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
