Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 93 suspected internet fraudsters in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Sunday, August 10, 2025, during a sting operation at the Green Legacy Hotel, located within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).
The operation followed credible intelligence on alleged cybercrime activities taking place in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the EFCC operatives stormed the hotel while a pool party was ongoing, causing panic as guests and partygoers fled in different directions.
A viral video from the scene captured moments of chaos, with gunshots ringing out as the operatives made arrests.
Sources disclosed that more than 20 luxury vehicles, mobile devices, and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered from the suspects.
The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the incident but declined to provide details. “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know,” he said.
Although the spokesperson for EFCC Lagos Zonal Command, Ayo Oyewole, said he was not immediately aware of the operation, the anti-graft agency confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
The raid comes just five days after EFCC operatives from its Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 56 suspected internet fraudsters, including one found in possession of two locally-made pistols, during an operation at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
