Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, friends and family members following the burial of Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara.
The late actress was laid to rest on Thursday, February 5, 2026, the same day she died, in line with Islamic rites. Videos shared on Instagram showed emotional moments as family members and close associates gathered to bid her farewell.
Earlier, her brother, Ridwan Lasisi, confirmed her death in a video message, appreciating the support shown by members of the film industry and well wishers. “Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on. All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members,” he said.
Speaking with newsmen, actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke disclosed that the late actress had been battling a liver related illness before her death. “I would say she should rest in peace. That’s just all I have to say to her. Everybody knew that she had a liver problem,” she said.
Reflecting on their relationship, Oshodi-Oke described Ajara as a close friend and colleague. “She was my friend and colleague. Whenever we were at a location, we would talk and play, but now we can’t do that again,” she added.
Also reacting to the loss, actress Ramota Adetu paid tribute via her Instagram page, expressing sadness over Ajara’s sudden passing. “My dear friend Aunty Hajara has gone. I was coming to see you with my sister but you couldn’t wait. Rest in perfect peace,” she wrote.
Ajara Lasisi was known for her roles in Yoruba films, where she carved a niche for herself with her distinct screen presence. Her death has left many in the Nollywood community mourning the loss of a colleague described as warm, lively and dedicated to her craft.
