The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Ramadan will commence on Saturday, March 1, 2025, following the sighting of the new crescent moon.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Sultan confirmed that verified reports of the moon sighting were received from various Islamic leaders across the country. “The reports were carefully verified, authenticated, and duly accepted,” he said.

He urged Muslims across Nigeria to commence fasting as required and dedicate themselves to acts of worship and devotion to Almighty Allah during the sacred month. “I call on all Muslims to embrace the spiritual essence of Ramadan, strengthen their faith, and engage in prayers for our country and its leaders at all levels,” the Sultan added.

The revered monarch also appealed to the Muslim community to practice charity, particularly by supporting the less privileged. “Let us extend our hands to the vulnerable so they too can partake in the blessings of Ramadan,” he said.
