Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion in their Premier League encounter at Anfield on Saturday, with Alexander Isak scoring after Pascal Gross’ own goal had given the hosts the lead.
The Reds took the lead through Gross’ unfortunate own goal before Isak doubled their advantage four minutes later, finishing off a move involving Bradley Barcola to seal all three points for the home side.
Liverpool dominated key moments of the encounter, with Florian Wirtz and Barcola producing impressive performances to trouble Brighton’s defence.
Wirtz was particularly influential in Liverpool’s attacking play, creating problems for the visitors throughout the match. His effort contributed to the opening goal, although the final touch came off Gross and sent the ball into his own net.
Barcola also proved a constant threat, using his pace and attacking movement to unsettle Brighton’s defenders. The winger played a crucial role in setting up Isak for Liverpool’s second goal.
Isak’s strike was his sixth Premier League goal of the season, further strengthening his growing importance to Liverpool’s attacking options.
Brighton, however, had opportunities to make an impact before Liverpool established their lead. Yasin Ayari missed a significant chance when the game was still goalless, while another effort from the midfielder struck the post.
The visitors showed periods of good possession and attacking intent but struggled to convert their opportunities into goals.
Liverpool’s defence remained organised to preserve the clean sheet, with Virgil van Dijk delivering an improved performance after his midweek display.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker had relatively little to do for much of the first half but was fortunate when Ayari’s effort struck the post following a misplaced pass from the Brazilian.
Brighton also suffered an early setback when Ferdi Kadioglu was forced off with an injury in the sixth minute. The visitors made further substitutions as they attempted to find a way back into the contest.
Despite their efforts, Liverpool managed the game effectively after extending their advantage, denying Brighton the opportunity to mount a comeback.
