The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned from the Federal Executive Council, formally declaring his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

Adelabu’s resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and routed through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. In the letter, the former minister expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration.

“I write with profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as Honourable Minister of Power,” Adelabu stated.

He appreciated the President for the confidence reposed in him and described his time in office as a privilege, noting that he contributed to efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Adelabu explained that his decision to step down was driven by his governorship ambition, saying the move would enable him to fully dedicate his time and resources to the political pursuit ahead of the 2027 election.

“It has been a privilege contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector,” he added.

The former minister also reaffirmed his commitment to national service while extending his respect and appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve.

Adelabu, who previously served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is now expected to join the growing list of aspirants positioning for the Oyo State governorship race.

His resignation comes amid ongoing concerns over power supply challenges across the country, for which he had recently apologised to Nigerians while promising improvements.
