Ota, Ogun State, witnessed a major industrial boost on Wednesday as Sam Pharmaceuticals Limited unveiled a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility along Ilo Awela Road, Old Toll Gate, in what stakeholders described as a significant step toward economic growth and improved healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the new factory reinforces the state’s position as Nigeria’s industrial hub, adding that the investment would stimulate the local economy through job creation and increased business activities within the Ota industrial corridor.
She noted that the facility would provide employment opportunities for skilled youths and professionals, while also strengthening the state’s healthcare value chain through local drug production.
According to her, “This investment is a clear demonstration of confidence in Ogun State as a preferred destination for pharmaceutical and healthcare investments. It aligns with our administration’s broader vision of advancing healthcare delivery.”
Salako-Oyedele added that the state government had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the company to promote the production of essential medicines, improve warehousing and distribution systems, and ensure a steady supply of health commodities across healthcare facilities.
She said the factory would also help reduce dependence on imported drugs, thereby enhancing medicine security in the country.
The deputy governor reiterated the government’s commitment to sustaining an enabling business environment through improved infrastructure, security, and policies that support ease of doing business, urging the company to maintain global standards in safety and quality.
In his remarks, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sam Pharmaceuticals Limited, Amit Bhojwani, described the project as a reflection of the company’s long-standing commitment to quality and innovation.
He said the factory, built to international specifications, marks the company’s transition into a more visible role in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry after decades of quiet operations.
“This facility represents a bold step forward for us. It is designed to deliver cutting-edge formulations that meet the evolving healthcare needs of modern Africa. Nigerians deserve only the best, and that is what we are committed to providing,” he said.
Bhojwani commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun for their support for the healthcare sector and policies that encourage industrial investments.
He assured that the company would continue to uphold its legacy of quality service delivery, which it has maintained since its establishment in 1971.
