Operatives of the Sango Ota Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested and arraigned nine individuals for traffic violations and obstruction of public highways during an ongoing enforcement exercise tagged Operation No Traffic Gridlock.
The operation was carried out in compliance with directives from the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, as part of renewed efforts to restore order and ease persistent congestion along the Sango Ota corridor.
Police operatives were deployed strategically to identified flashpoints within the axis, areas known for repeated traffic congestion and road indiscipline. The deployment, according to the Command, was aimed at ensuring free flow of traffic and improving public safety.
During the exercise, several vehicles and tricycles were intercepted for various breaches of traffic regulations. Some of the offenders were also arrested for allegedly obstructing the movement of other road users.
The Command said the enforcement was carried out in line with its zero tolerance stance on traffic obstruction and related infractions that contribute to gridlock within the area.
Those arrested include Rufus Kunle, Sanni Ogbewi, Aremu Oluwatunmise, Kayode Ariyo, Wisdom Akpan, Yinka Molaolu, Olushola Adebowale, Ikechukwu Ogah and Nwuda Chukwuka.
They were subsequently charged to court after preliminary processing by the police authorities.
The Command explained that the ongoing operation is not a one off intervention but a sustained enforcement drive targeted at habitual violators of traffic laws within the Sango Ota axis.
It added that monitoring and enforcement activities would continue in order to identify and apprehend other individuals undermining traffic order and public safety in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the exercise for what he described as professionalism and commitment to duty.
He reiterated that the Command will not tolerate acts capable of causing avoidable traffic congestion, warning that offenders will face the full weight of the law regardless of status.
Residents were also urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and comply with traffic regulations to ensure smoother movement across major roads in the state.
The Command further encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities and traffic-related misconduct through its emergency lines for prompt response.
