Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has intensified his administration’s infrastructure push with the commissioning of the 5.5-kilometre Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road and the announcement of fresh reconstruction works on the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa Road in Abeokuta.

The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday during the official commissioning of the newly completed road network, which cuts across Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South Local Government Areas.

Abiodun said the intervention formed part of his administration’s broader commitment to expanding road infrastructure, easing movement, and strengthening economic activities across the state.

He described the Ago-Odo–Lafenwa axis as one of the abandoned projects inherited by his government, adding that plans had been concluded to return contractors to site for its reconstruction. According to him, the upgrade will improve connectivity and open up commercial opportunities within the corridor.

The governor also disclosed plans for a one-kilometre link road, including a bridge to connect the area to Lafenwa. He said the project followed appeals from community leaders and the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland.

Abiodun noted that the newly commissioned Elega–Saje road was already stimulating economic activity in the area, with increased movement and growing night-time commerce. He added that solar-powered streetlights would be installed along the corridor to boost security and support businesses.

Reaffirming his administration’s infrastructure agenda, the governor said about 26 roads were ready for commissioning, with plans to inaugurate at least one project every week in the coming months.

He also pointed to other ongoing works, including the Car Wash–Adatan Road, which he said was nearing completion, describing them as evidence of sustained delivery on infrastructure promises.

On tourism, Abiodun said the refurbished Olumo Rock Tourist Centre was attracting international attention, revealing that the City of Milan in Italy had expressed interest in collaboration. He added that the facility, now concessioned, had recorded a significant rise in revenue generation from about N3 million annually to around N10 million weekly.

The governor stressed that a stable political environment remained crucial for sustainable development, noting that his administration had maintained peace while driving its development agenda.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the new road would enhance economic activities in the axis and urged residents to take ownership of the project.

Traditional rulers and community leaders, including the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, commended the governor for his infrastructure drive, describing it as transformative.

They also praised ongoing projects across the state, expressing optimism that continued investment in road infrastructure would improve living standards and strengthen economic growth.
