The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with armed robbery and vehicle theft operations across Abeokuta and its environs, while also recovering a stolen Toyota Corolla and other exhibits linked to criminal activities.

The arrests followed coordinated intelligence-led operations by operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta, noting that the operations led to the arrest of Ismaila Israel Sokunbi, 38, Kayode Adeyemi, 37, identified as a suspected kingpin, and Kola Taiwo, 55.

According to the statement, one of the incidents began on 22 May 2026 when armed men attempted to rob a resident of his vehicle at Oniyo Community, Obantoko, Abeokuta, but were forced to flee after the victim raised an alarm. “During their escape, one suspect dropped an Infinix mobile phone and a Wema Bank ATM card, which were recovered as exhibits,” the police said.

Investigations later led to the arrest of Sokunbi, while a search of his residence reportedly uncovered items including SIM cards, machinery tools, cooking utensils, and suspected charms. The statement added that further intelligence operations led to the arrest of the alleged kingpin, Adeyemi, in Ibadan.

The police further stated that the suspects confessed to the attempted robbery and admitted involvement in a syndicate responsible for multiple vehicle thefts. “They specialise in stealing vehicles by tampering with ignition wiring systems,” the statement quoted.

In a separate operation, detectives also arrested Kola Taiwo in connection with a Toyota Corolla stolen from Osiele, Odeda Local Government Area. “The suspect confessed to several vehicle thefts within the Osiele axis using master keys to gain access to parked vehicles,” the police added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their professionalism and intelligence-driven approach, saying the Command remains committed to sustained proactive policing across the state. “We will not tolerate violent crime or vehicle theft in any part of Ogun State,” he warned.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies, assuring that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicates.
