The Ogun State Government and the Nigeria Police Force have renewed their commitment to strengthening security across the state, with a focus on combating cross-border crimes and protecting lives, property and critical economic assets.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a strategic security meeting between the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, Fayoade Adegoke, and Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaking at the meeting, Talabi said the state government remained committed to ensuring the safety of residents and sustaining a secure environment for economic growth and investment.

He noted that security remained a key pillar of the administration’s development agenda, stressing that Ogun’s status as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial and commercial hubs required a robust security framework.

According to him, the government has consistently supported security agencies with operational resources and logistics to improve their effectiveness across the state.

Talabi disclosed that the state recently procured 65 patrol vehicles to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies.

“The administration recently procured 65 patrol vehicles to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies,” he said, describing the move as part of efforts to keep communities and strategic economic corridors safe.

The SSG also commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police and other security stakeholders for their contributions to maintaining peace through the Gateway Shield initiative.

He added that the initiative had recorded notable successes in combating criminal activities across the state.

Talabi stressed the need for continuous engagement between government officials and security agencies to ensure strategies remain responsive to emerging threats.

Earlier, Adegoke described Ogun as a strategic state whose security was crucial to Nigeria’s economic stability.

The DIG expressed concern over the growing incidence of cross-border crimes, particularly the activities of criminal elements exploiting porous international boundaries to infiltrate communities and perpetrate kidnappings and other offences.

He called for greater attention to border surveillance and improved operational capabilities for security agencies.

“The success recorded under the state’s Gateway Shield operation demonstrates the value of collaboration between the government and security agencies,” Adegoke said.

He appealed for additional logistics support for security operations in difficult terrains along border communities and advocated the deployment of modern surveillance tools to strengthen intelligence gathering and crime prevention.

Adegoke also commended Governor Abiodun for his support for security agencies, noting that the partnership between the state government and law enforcement institutions had helped sustain peace and boost investor confidence.
