The Ogun State Police Command has urged commuters and residents to remain calm following a reported security incident around the J3 area of the Sagamu–Benin Expressway, saying adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee public safety.

The was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, had ordered the deployment of maximum operational strength to the area immediately after receiving a distress report.

According to the statement, four units of the Police Mobile Force, operatives of the Anti Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams were mobilised to the corridor to track the fleeing suspects and restore confidence among road users.

Babaseyi said an intensive bush combing operation was ongoing, with security operatives making significant progress in tracking the suspects while maintaining a strong presence along the expressway.

“The Command deployed four units of Police Mobile Force personnel, operatives of the Anti Kidnapping Unit, and other tactical teams to the area,” the statement read.

He added that “an intensive bush combing exercise is ongoing, with the deployed operatives making significant operational progress in tracking the fleeing suspects, dominating the area, and ensuring the safety of commuters and inhabitants of the corridor.”

The police spokesperson assured members of the public that there was no reason to panic, stressing that security agencies had taken all necessary steps to safeguard lives and property.

“The Command wishes to state that there is no cause for alarm. All necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure public safety,” Babaseyi said.
