Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, on Saturday reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Ogun State as he declared his intention to transform Kemta and other parts of the state through sustained infrastructure and social development.

The senator made the pledge during a homecoming reception organised in his honour by the people of Kemta-Odutolu Kingdom in Abeokuta. The event, hosted by the Kemta Kingdom under the leadership of the Oluwo of Kemta, High Chief Rotimi Abayomi, attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders and residents.

Speaking at the event, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, who was represented by the Aro of Egbaland and Oluwo of Ijemo, Chief Yinka Kufile, expressed confidence in Adeola’s capacity to attract more development to Ogun State.

The monarch’s representative said, “He cannot satisfy us all as individuals, but if he provides social amenities, everyone will enjoy the benefits.”

Adeola, who traced his maternal roots to Egbaland, described the reception as symbolic and vowed not to take the support of the people for granted.

“Abibat Olasumbo Akinola is my mother. Kabiyesi, I am your son. My mother is from Egbaland. What happened here today is remarkable because the entire Kemta Kingdom gave me a heroic welcome back home, and it is symbolic. I will never underrate my motherland,” he said.

The senator clarified that his visit was not a political campaign but a homecoming to reconnect with his ancestral roots.

“I have not come to Kabiyesi to campaign. I am here simply to say that I am back home. I am a full-blooded Egba man. I have lived in Egbaland for over 20 years and have continued to do great things in Egbaland,” he stated.

Adeola announced that the Saraki-Adigbe and Magbon-INEC roads would be asphalted within the next one to two weeks as part of ongoing infrastructure projects in the state.

“I have set a standard for myself, either consciously or unconsciously, and I can only improve on that standard to make the people of Ogun State happy with me,” he said.

The lawmaker listed several projects executed under his leadership across Ogun State, including road construction, school rehabilitation, market development and other public infrastructure, adding that more than 16 roads and over 15 schools were currently under construction.

He also expressed his ambition to become the next governor of Ogun State, saying he hoped to return to the palace in a different capacity.

“I am coming back to this palace as the Governor of Ogun State,” Adeola declared.

He assured residents that Kemta would witness significant transformation under his development agenda.

“We are going to join hands to transform Kemta. I will turn Kemta into ‘Small London.’ We will ensure that all the necessary and meaningful development that has been promised and initiated will return to Kemta and benefit the people of Kemta,” he said.

Expressing appreciation for the warm reception, the senator described the turnout as a call to greater service and pledged to consolidate on the achievements of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

“I do not take this for granted. I take it as a call to service. I am committed to development, and development will reach every part of Ogun State. We will consolidate on the gains of the current administration and take Ogun State to the next level under my leadership,” he added.
