The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) has commended the Ogun State Government for its sustained efforts to expand access to appropriate agricultural financing for farmers and agribusinesses across the state.
The recognition was conferred on the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security under the Global Project, Promotion of Agricultural Finance for Agri-based Enterprises in Rural Areas (GP AgFin Nigeria), implemented by GIZ and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The ministry also received a Certificate of Appreciation for its contribution to strengthening access to financial services tailored to the needs of farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs.
In the certificate signed by the Head of the GP AgFin Nigeria Project, Mrs Ruskiyat Badmus, GIZ expressed appreciation to the ministry for its sustained support and collaboration in advancing access to appropriate agricultural financial services.
The recognition followed the ministry’s collaboration with the GP AgFin Nigeria Project, which operated from January 2018 to October 2026, with a focus on strengthening financial inclusion in the agricultural sector and improving opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses to secure suitable financing.
Access to affordable and appropriate finance remains a major challenge facing farmers and agri-based enterprises, particularly those seeking to expand production, processing and other activities across the agricultural value chain.
Through the partnership, efforts were made to address some of these challenges by supporting an environment where agricultural entrepreneurs could access financial services suited to their business needs.
The recognition also reflects Ogun State’s broader approach to agriculture as a driver of economic development, with emphasis on food production, institutional support and the development of a stronger financial ecosystem for the sector.
The state government has continued to work with development partners and other stakeholders to create opportunities for farmers and agribusiness operators to expand their businesses, generate employment and contribute to food security.
The GIZ recognition is therefore seen as a testament to the value of sustained collaboration between government and development institutions in strengthening Ogun State’s agricultural sector and promoting inclusive economic growth.
