The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a Sierra Leonean, Favour Foday Kamara, over an alleged $190,324 fraud involving a United States-based Sierra Leonean woman, Henrietta Vandi, before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.
Kamara was arraigned on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, by the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, before Justice O. A. Okunuga on a two-count charge bordering on alleged stealing and fraudulent conversion of funds.
The petitioner, Vandi, 70, alleged that she met the defendant during a visit to the Synagogue Church of All Nations between 2019 and 2020, after which he reportedly encouraged her to invest in Nigeria.
According to the EFCC, investigations revealed that Vandi allegedly sent money to the defendant through Ria, Western Union, MoneyGram and cash transfers into his Access Bank account for the purchase and renovation of a property at 20/30 Gbenga Ogunleye/Atobatele Street, Cele Bus Stop, Araromi, Alimosho, Lagos.
The commission further alleged that the property was eventually purchased in Kamara’s name, adding that he resides there and collects rent from tenants.
Following the conclusion of its investigation, the EFCC charged the defendant with the alleged theft and fraudulent conversion of $190,324 belonging to the petitioner.
One of the counts alleged that Kamara dishonestly converted the sum to his personal use between August 2021 and February 2025 in Lagos.
The charge stated that the alleged offence contravened Sections 278(1)(b) and 285(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Kamara, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, Nnaemeka Omewa, asked the court to fix a date for trial and order the defendant’s remand in a correctional facility.
Justice Okunuga subsequently adjourned the case until October 29, 2026, and ordered that Kamara be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The defendant is expected to return to court on the adjourned date as the case proceeds to trial.
