Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Friday inaugurated the Governing Councils of two of the state’s three-owned universities — the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.

While Dr Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan will serve as Chairman of the Governing Council for the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Professor Ayodeji Oludare Omole was appointed as the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of LAUTECH’s Governing Council.

Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde revealed that his administration is working on increasing subventions to the state-owned universities to empower them to meet their financial and academic obligations.

“We are committed to improving the education sector in Oyo State. As part of this, we will increase the subventions to our tertiary institutions to help them meet their responsibilities effectively,” he stated.

The governor also noted the administration’s plan to invest in the health sector, disclosing that Category 3 primary healthcare centres would be constructed, and ambulances provided across the state before the end of the year.

Makinde congratulated the newly inaugurated council chairmen and members, urging them to serve with diligence.

“I congratulate the Chairmen and all members of the Governing Councils. I trust that you will carry out your duties with dedication, putting the interest of the universities and the state above all else,” he added.

The full list of members inaugurated includes for the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University:
Dr Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan (Chairman), Professor Adesola Ajayi (Vice Chancellor), Professor Iyiola Tella (Deputy Vice Chancellor), Hon. Seyi Joseph Adisa, Professor (Engr.) Samson Olakunle Ojoawo, Professor Mojeed Kolawole Akinsola, Dr Aminat Adeyemi Ahmed, Mrs B. T. Oyinloye (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education), Mrs A. A. Fasina (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance), and Mrs Olanrewaju V. Omolola (Acting Registrar/Secretary).

For Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), the new council members are:
Professor Ayodeji Oludare Omole (Pro Chancellor and Chairman), Professor R. O. R. Kalilu (Vice Chancellor), Professor A. T. J. Ogunkunle (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Strategy and Development), Professor Dauda Araromi (Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Innovation), Mr Idowu Olukunle Adeosun, Mrs Titilayomi Ahmadu, Mr Jelili Bamidele Busari, Mr Teslim Adediran, and Mrs Yinka Balogun (Registrar).

Governor Makinde emphasized that these appointments are crucial to ensuring accountability, quality academic standards, and improved management in the state’s tertiary institutions.
