President Bola Tinubu has expressed his readiness to welcome the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, into the All Progressives Congress (APC) whenever he decides to switch allegiance from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tinubu made this known on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 and other infrastructure projects within the Katampe District of Abuja.

In a moment that sparked both political curiosity and laughter, the President jokingly referenced Wike’s popular political chant while extending an open invitation.

“We have somebody—Nyesom Wike—he is not a member of my party, not yet,” Tinubu said with a smile.

“But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy singing ‘as e dey pain dem, e dey sweet us.’”

His remarks came on the heels of growing speculation about Wike’s political future, especially given his close alliance with the APC-led government despite still being a member of the PDP.

The President had only a day earlier urged Wike to stay focused on delivering good governance in the FCT, amidst mounting criticisms from opposition quarters.

Speaking during the inauguration of the newly renovated International Conference Centre in Abuja, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, the President praised the FCT Minister’s performance.

“Don’t pay attention to busybodies and bystanders, and whatever they say. Continue with your good work,” Tinubu said.

“You are a transformational leader. You have the vision, foresight and determination to succeed.”

He explained that the renovated centre aligns with his administration’s vision of excellence and national renewal.

“This project is part of our determined efforts to change the way we do things. It reflects us as people of quality, character and great spirit. That’s what we are,” Tinubu said.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure across the country as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We are determined to renew the infrastructural and other key sectors of this country including transportation, healthcare, education, energy and urban development,” he said.

“Because we understand that modern infrastructure is the backbone of a thriving economy and an inclusive, progressive society.”
