Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning to radio stations and political actors in the state over what he described as repeated breaches of broadcasting codes and incitement to violence.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the Governor expressed deep concern over the conduct of certain radio stations that allegedly give airtime to guests who make inflammatory, libelous and seditious comments, especially in light of recent court decisions on the leadership of local governments in the state.

Adeleke said it was unacceptable for media platforms to become tools for misinformation and unrest, while denying the targeted individuals the opportunity for fair hearing.

“It is worrisome that some stations allow guests to go on air and incite violence or malign public officials without giving the affected persons any right of reply,” the Governor said.

He directed the Commissioner for Information to immediately summon the General Managers of the implicated radio stations for an emergency meeting, adding that further actions will be considered after the engagement.

While reiterating his commitment to press freedom, Adeleke stressed that the media must operate within ethical boundaries.

“We uphold media freedom, but there is a red line. Observance of the broadcasting code is a non-negotiable requirement for responsible journalism. Any station found guilty of continuous violation will face sanctions,” he warned.

The Governor also took aim at some opposition politicians, accusing them of fanning the flames of violence following the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the local government leadership issue.

He condemned the rhetoric of some political actors who, according to him, had made public statements suggesting they would disregard legal processes.

“No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands. We remain committed to the rule of law and we will ensure that anyone attempting to disrupt public peace is held accountable,” Adeleke said.

Calling for calm, the Governor urged residents to reject any call to violence and allow the judiciary to play its role.
“Our people must remain peaceful.

The court has spoken, and the matter is being addressed within the framework of the law. There is no need for further bloodletting. Those trying to stir unrest will meet the full weight of the law,” he added.
