At least ten persons have been confirmed dead while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at a busy fish market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night.
Security sources and eyewitnesses said the attacker infiltrated the crowded market area in disguise before setting off the explosive, killing himself and 10 others on the spot.
“Everything happened so fast. People were buying and selling fish, and then suddenly there was a loud bang. People were screaming, and we saw bodies scattered,” said one eyewitness who preferred not to be named for security reasons.
Military personnel and emergency responders were quickly deployed to the scene, with the wounded rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Confirming the incident, a military source said, “The Nigerian Army and other security operatives moved in swiftly after the blast. The injured were immediately evacuated. We’ve cordoned off the area to prevent any secondary attacks.”
